Collection: Sauna Whisks & Veniks

Sauna whisks, called venik in the Russian banya and vihta or vasta in Finland: birch, oak and eucalyptus bundles for the traditional bath.

What is a sauna whisk?

A sauna whisk is a bundle of leafy branches tied at the handle. In Russian banyas it is called a venik, and in Finland a vihta or vasta. It is used to fan hot air over the body and to tap the skin lightly during a session, a ritual that goes back centuries.

Birch, oak or eucalyptus

  • Birch: the classic whisk, soft leaves and a fresh smell.
  • Oak: sturdier leaves that hold up to longer use.
  • Eucalyptus: strongly aromatic when warmed.

How to use one

  • Soak a dried whisk in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes before your session so the leaves soften.
  • Warm it over the stones briefly, then fan the air or tap lightly.
  • Rinse it after use and dry it hanging up.

Pair it with a sauna hat and read our sauna etiquette guide.
