Choosing sauna lights
Ordinary household fixtures are not built for sauna heat and steam. Sauna lights use heat-resistant housings, sealed glass and moisture-resistant fittings.
Types
- Sauna lamps: enclosed fixtures with a glass cover, often with a wooden shade, for walls and corners.
- Bulkhead wall lights: sealed, moisture-resistant fixtures for saunas and steam rooms.
- LED spotlights: small recessed or surface spots with an IP65 or higher rating. Dimmable spots set a soft light.
Where to mount them
- Keep lights low or behind a backrest or bench, out of your eyes, for the classic soft sauna glow.
- Keep them away from the heater, where the air is hottest.
- Check each fixture listing for its maximum temperature and ingress (IP) rating.
- Have a licensed electrician install hard-wired lights.

Sauna Lights FAQ
Can I use normal lights in a sauna?
It is not recommended. Use fixtures rated for the heat and humidity of a sauna, with sealed glass and moisture-resistant fittings.
Where should sauna lights go?
Low on the wall, behind a backrest or under a bench, away from the heater. Indirect, low light is the traditional sauna look.
