Choosing a barrel sauna

A barrel sauna is a round, wooden sauna built from long staves held together with steel bands. The round shape means less air inside than a square cabin of a similar footprint, so there is less air for the heater to warm. Barrel saunas sit outdoors on a flat, level base, and most need a 240V electrical supply run by an electrician.

Size and space

The Blisspod Prague in its 180 × 180 × 180 cm size measures about 70.9 in across and 70.9 in long outside, and 67.9 in across inside. The longer 240 cm version adds a little over two feet of length for more bench space. Allow room around the barrel for the door to swing and for airflow, and check the listing for the base it needs.

Power

The Blisspod barrels list a 6,000 W heater drawing 27 A. That is a dedicated 240V circuit, not a household outlet. Have an electrician check your panel before you order. If you want to skip wiring altogether, look at wood-fired saunas or wood-burning sauna stoves.
