What a cold plunge chiller does
A chiller is a small refrigeration unit with a pump. It draws water from your tub, cools and filters it, and returns it, holding the temperature you set. With a chiller the tub stays cold between sessions and the water stays cleaner.
What to compare
- Cooling power: listed in horsepower (HP). Check the tub volume each chiller is rated for and match it to your tub.
- Lowest temperature: listed per model. Look at how cold it can go and how long it takes to get there.
- Filtration: an external or built-in filter keeps hair and debris out of the water.
- Controls: some chillers have Wi-Fi app control and timers.
Setup tips
- Use a chiller-compatible tub with inlet and outlet ports, or one the chiller hoses can reach.
- Give the chiller airflow on all sides and keep it out of standing water.
- Plug it into a properly rated outdoor outlet with GFCI protection, and keep the tub covered to save energy.

Cold Plunge Chillers FAQ
Do I need a chiller for a cold plunge?
No. You can cool a tub with ice. Use our ice bath calculator to see how much you need. A chiller removes the ice runs and holds a steady temperature, and its filter keeps the water cleaner for longer.
What size cold plunge chiller do I need?
Each chiller lists the tub volume it is rated for. Find your tub volume in gallons or litres and choose a chiller rated for at least that much water.
Where should a cold plunge chiller go?
On a level surface next to the tub, with clear airflow around it, out of standing water, and plugged into a GFCI-protected outlet suitable for its power draw.
