Collection: Hemlock Saunas

Shop 37 hemlock saunas, most built from Canadian hemlock, priced from $1,157 to $14,999. Thirty are far-infrared cabins from one to five seats, with indoor heater-plate rooms and a two-person outdoor hybrid rounding out the range.

Why hemlock for a sauna

Hemlock is the most common wood in the saunas we carry. It is pale and even in color, with very little scent, which suits people who find cedar's smell too strong. In this collection, it is used for cabin walls, benches and backrests.

Size

Hemlock cabins here run from a single mini room 73 cm (29 in) wide to five-person rooms. Many two-person cabins are 47.24 in (1.2 m) wide. Capacity is stated per listing. Compare by size in 1 person infrared saunas, 2 person infrared saunas and 3 and 4 person infrared saunas.

Heater and power

Most hemlock cabins use far-infrared panels, often carbon, with loads of about 1,020 to 2,250 watts where stated. Twelve listings state 120V. Several give the plug rating: some use a 15-amp plug and others a 20-amp plug. The four-person hemlock stove sauna is different. It uses a 9 kW electric stove and lists 110V or 220V options, so read its spec closely. The Golden Designs Nora is a two-person outdoor hybrid at $14,999.

Temperature

Stated ranges on hemlock infrared cabins include 77 to 149°F (25 to 65°C) and a 140°F top setting on the Blisspod models. Healthline puts typical infrared sauna temperatures at 120 to 140°F (49 to 60°C), against 150 to 180°F (66 to 82°C) for traditional saunas.

Hemlock or cedar?

  • Look: hemlock is light and uniform, while red cedar is reddish with more grain contrast.
  • Scent: hemlock is mild. Cedar has a strong, familiar aroma.
  • Price: the median hemlock sauna here is about $2,961. The median cedar sauna is about $6,999, partly because the cedar range includes more large traditional saunas.

Setup

Most hemlock cabins assemble from pre-built wall panels, and several plug in on a 3 m (about 10 ft) power cord. Large cabins ship freight. Measure your doorways and ceiling height before you order.
