Collection: Portable Saunas

Choosing a portable sauna

A portable sauna gives you heat at home without a build or new wiring. Most store in a closet and plug into a household outlet. There are three main types here.

Portable steam saunas

These are fabric tents on a folding frame, with a separate steam generator that sits outside and pipes steam in. Generators here are mostly 800 W (17 listings), with 1,000, 1,200, 1,500 and 1,600 W options. Most have a 2 to 3 L tank, and 35 listings state 3 L. Stated top temperatures run from about 113°F to 167°F. Most are for one person, a few fit two, and two larger tents are rated for four. See the full range in portable steam saunas.

Infrared sauna blankets

A sauna blanket is a padded sleeping-bag-style wrap with heating built in. You lie down in it rather than sit. The models here list 400 to 600 W on 120V. Stated ranges include 90 to 180°F (32 to 82°C), and one has arm holes. See sauna blankets.

Power and space

• Outlet: listings that give a voltage use 110 to 120V. A 1,500 W steamer is near the limit of a 15-amp circuit, so do not share it with a space heater or hair dryer.
• Footprint: one-person steam tents are about 31 to 36 in (0.8 to 0.9 m) square and about 5.9 ft (1.8 m) tall. Two-person tents run about 36 to 48 in wide.
• Floor: put a towel or mat under steam models to catch condensation.

Parts for tent saunas

Full covers, rain covers, replacement poles and a 4 ft (48 in) portable sauna bench are here for the Mini Cube, Nova and Dome tents. The tents and stoves themselves are in tent saunas and wood burning sauna stoves.

When to step up

If you want higher heat or more room, a sauna pod or a 1 person infrared sauna is the next step. One-person cabins start at $1,216.
